The path from education to employment once appeared relatively straightforward: gain your qualifications, find a good job and build a career for life. Today, that familiar checklist no longer reflects the reality many young people are entering.
In the first episode of our new Beyond the Checklist series, Roxanne and Jo explore how the world of work has changed and what that means for parents supporting older children. From evolving career paths, online applications and artificial intelligence to entrepreneurship, volunteering and transferable skills, they consider the opportunities and challenges facing this generation.
They also discuss why young people may need encouragement to recognise the value of the experience they already have, how parents can help without taking over, and why hearing “no” does not diminish a person’s talent or potential.
This is an honest and encouraging conversation about helping our children move beyond traditional expectations, think resourcefully and find work in which they can grow and flourish.
